This Privacy Policy describes how Grid Travel LLC (“GridTravel,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use GridTravel: Local Routes(the “App”) and any related websites, features, or services operated by us (collectively, the “Service”).
The Service is offered only to users located in the United States. We do not target or knowingly offer the Service to users outside the United States.
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide to Us
- Account Data. When you create an account, we collect your email address and assign you a username (which you can change later from in-app settings, subject to availability). You may optionally provide a first and last name. If you sign in with Apple, we receive basic account information from Apple (such as your name and email, or an Apple-provided private relay email) as permitted by your Apple ID settings. Because we authenticate every sign-in with a one-time code (sent to your email or provided through Sign in with Apple), the Service does not store passwords.
- Profile Data. You may choose to add a profile picture (avatar), bio, and location to your profile. If you choose a photo for your avatar or a route cover image, you grant the App access to the photos you select through the iOS photo picker.
- User-Generated Content. Content you create, upload, or submit through the Service, including routes you create (title, description, city, state, cover image, waypoints, tips), ratings, comments, comment likes, saved routes, completed route records, route collaboration invitations and responses, follow requests and responses, blocks, and reports you submit.
- Preferences. Your in-app preferences, such as unit system (imperial or metric), appearance mode (light, dark, or system), email and push notification settings, profile privacy settings (including whether your profile is private and whether your route activity is hidden from your followers), and other account settings.
- Push Notification Tokens and Device Identifiers.If you grant permission, we collect device push notification tokens (via the Apple Push Notification service), along with a device identifier (the iOS vendor identifier), platform, environment, and app version, so we can deliver the in-app notifications you have opted into. You can disable push notifications at any time in your device’s Settings or in your in-app preferences.
- Communications. If you contact us at support@gridtravel.app or otherwise communicate with us, we collect the content of those communications.
- Trust and Safety Information. If you submit a report about another user, route, or comment, we collect the content of that report (including the reason and any details you provide), the status of our review, and any resolution notes our team adds, so we can review and act on it. If you block another user, we record that relationship so we can enforce it. Reports and moderation records are visible only to GridTravel and are not shown to the user who is the subject of the report. If we take a moderation action affecting your account or your content (for example, removing a route, removing a comment, removing a route cover image, or flagging your account), we may send you an in-app notification describing the action.
Information Collected Automatically
- Usage Data. Information about how you use the Service, including features you interact with, routes you view, save, or complete, and actions you take.
- Device Data. Device type, operating system and version, app version, language settings, and similar technical information.
- Log Data. IP address, access times, and diagnostic or crash information.
Location Information
The Service uses your device’s location to help you navigate routes, record completed routes (including distance traveled and stops visited), surface nearby routes, and display map tiles and turn-by-turn directions.
The App requests “While Using” location access. While you are actively navigating a route, location continues to be processed in the background so that we can provide turn-by-turn directions, record your progress, and play audio guidance; iOS will display a status indicator (the blue pill or system indicator) while this is happening. We do not request “Always” (background-anytime) location access. You can disable location access at any time through your device’s Settings, but some features will not work without it.
Real-time location used for navigation is processed on your device and through our maps provider for routing; we do not retain a history of your raw location after you finish a route. From a completed route we retain summary information such as the total distance traveled and which stops you reached.
Map regions you download for offline use are stored locally on your device. Our maps and navigation provider (Mapbox) collects telemetry data, including anonymized location, movement, and device information, to operate and improve their mapping services. For details, please review the Mapbox Privacy Policy.
Information from Third Parties
If you sign in through Sign in with Apple, we receive the information you authorize Apple to share with us, such as your name and an email address (which may be an Apple-provided private relay address).
2. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and maintain your account and profile;
- Provide, operate, personalize, and improve the Service;
- Display your public profile, routes, comments, ratings, and other contributions to other users;
- Enable route collaboration and follow relationships, including delivering invitations, requests, and responses to the relevant users;
- Calculate your stats, such as routes created, routes completed, total distance traveled, stops visited, and cities visited;
- Keep follower, following, rating, and like counts accurate;
- Communicate with you about the Service, including service announcements, security alerts, and product updates, announcements, and exclusive offers (which you can opt out of as described in Section 4);
- Respond to your support requests;
- Review reports submitted through the Service, enforce our community guidelines, and take action on accounts, routes, comments, or other content (including flagging accounts, removing content, or suspending or terminating access);
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security issues, and violations of our Terms of Service; and
- Comply with legal obligations.
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- With Other Users.Your profile (including username, avatar, bio, and location), routes you publish, ratings, comments, and comment likes are visible to other users of the Service. Follower and following counts are visible on your profile, and the identities of your followers and people you follow are visible to other users in line with your privacy settings. Routes saved in “draft” status are not shared with other users, except that users you invite to collaborate on a draft can view that draft (including its waypoints and tips) from the time the invitation is sent, and can edit it once they accept the invitation. When you send a follow request, a route collaboration invitation, or a similar request, the recipient will see your identity (such as your username and avatar) so they can act on the request.
- Service Providers.We share information with vendors that help us operate the Service, including our hosting and backend provider (Supabase, which hosts your account data, profile, routes, and other User Content), our maps and navigation provider (Mapbox, which provides map tiles, search, routing, and turn-by-turn navigation, and which may receive your location, device identifiers, and other technical data as described in Mapbox’s privacy policy), and Apple (which provides Sign in with Apple and the Apple Push Notification service used to deliver in-app notifications). These providers are only permitted to use your information to perform services for us or as described in their own privacy policies.
- Legal and Safety. We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, enforce our Terms of Service, protect the rights, property, or safety of GridTravel, our users, or others, or to respond to lawful requests from public authorities.
- Business Transfers. If GridTravel is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
- With Your Consent. We may share information with third parties when you direct us to do so.
4. Your Choices
- Default Privacy Settings. When you create a GridTravel account, your profile information (username, avatar, bio, location) and the routes, ratings, and comments you publish are public by default and visible to other users of the Service. Draft routes remain private to you and any collaborators you invite. You can manage your profile visibility and content through your in-app settings.
- Private Profile. You can switch your profile to private from in-app settings. While your profile is private, other users must send a follow request, which you can approve or deny, before they can follow you. Pending follow requests, and your responses to them, are stored so that we can deliver and act on them. If you switch your profile back to public, any follow requests that are still pending will be automatically accepted (other than requests involving users you or they have blocked).
- Hide Profile Activity. You can choose to hide your route activity (such as routes you have completed or saved) from your followers from in-app settings.
- Blocking.You can block another user from in-app settings or from their profile. When you block someone, that relationship is stored so we can prevent the blocked user from interacting with you on the Service. Blocking also automatically removes follow relationships between the two of you, removes either of you as a collaborator on the other’s routes, and hides the blocked user’s saved-route and completed-route records that involve routes created by you (and vice versa).
- Reporting. You can report a user, route, or comment that you believe violates our community guidelines. Reports are reviewed by GridTravel and are not shared with the reported user.
- Push Notifications.You can turn push notifications on or off, and choose which categories of push notifications you receive (such as follow requests, new followers, route collaboration requests, route comments, and route reviews), from in-app settings or your device’s Settings.
- Account Information. You can review and update your profile, username, bio, avatar, location, and preferences at any time from within the App. You can also change the email address on your account from in-app settings; we use Supabase to send a confirmation message before the change takes effect.
- Email Preferences. You can opt out of marketing emails (such as product updates, announcements, and exclusive offers) in your in-app preferences or by following the unsubscribe instructions in any marketing email. Transactional emails (such as one-time sign-in codes, account confirmations, and security notices) cannot be opted out of while you maintain an account.
- Location Services.You can disable location access through your device’s system settings.
- Account Deletion.You can delete your account at any time from within the App. When you delete your account, your profile, comments, ratings, saved-route and completed-route records, preferences, push-notification tokens, and other content associated with your account will be deleted from our live systems. If you are the creator of a route that has at least one accepted collaborator, ownership of that route will be transferred to one of those collaborators rather than deleted, so that they can continue to use, edit, and publish the route; the route’s contents (including any contributions you made to it) will remain part of the transferred route. If a route does not have an accepted collaborator, it will be deleted along with your account. Residual copies may remain in backups for a limited period, and certain records (such as reports you submitted, which are anonymized when you delete your account, or moderation logs) may be retained as described in Section 6.
California Users Under 18 — Right to Remove Content
If you are a registered user of the Service who resides in California and is under 18 years of age, California Business and Professions Code Section 22581 gives you the right to remove, or to request removal of, content or information you have publicly posted on the Service. You can remove most content yourself from within the App (for example, by deleting routes, comments, or ratings you have posted, or by deleting your account, which removes the content associated with it). You may also email a removal request to legal@gridtravel.app from the email address associated with your account.
Please note that removal does not ensure complete or comprehensive removal of the content. For example, copies may remain in backups for a limited period, on devices of users who downloaded a route for offline use, or in places where other users have copied or republished the content; and we are not required to remove content if a law requires us to keep it, if it was not posted by you, if another user has reposted or republished it, or if it has been anonymized so that you can no longer be identified.
5. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on the U.S. state in which you reside (including California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and Montana, among others), you may have the following rights regarding your personal information, subject to applicable law:
- Right to Access/Know: You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you and details about how we process it.
- Right to Correction: You can ask us to correct inaccuracies in your personal information.
- Right to Deletion: You can request that we delete your personal information.
- Right to Opt Out: You can opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising. We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Right to Data Portability: You can request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format to transfer it to another service.
- Right to Withdraw Consent: Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time (e.g., turning off location services).
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
Exercising Your Rights: To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at legal@gridtravel.app. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling your request.
6. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, comments, ratings, saved-route and completed-route records, preferences, push notification tokens, and other content associated with your account from our live systems shortly after the deletion request is received. Routes you created without an accepted collaborator are deleted at the same time; routes that have at least one accepted collaborator are transferred to a collaborator (as described in Section 4) and remain part of the Service. Residual copies may remain in routine encrypted backups for a limited period (typically up to 30 days) before being overwritten.
We may retain certain information after account deletion to the extent permitted or required by law, including: reports you submitted, which are retained in anonymized form (with your identity removed) so that we can preserve the integrity of our trust and safety records; records of moderation actions (such as accounts that have been flagged or content that has been removed) for trust and safety purposes; aggregated or de-identified information that can no longer reasonably be associated with you; and information we are required to keep to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, or enforce our agreements.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of your information.
8. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at legal@gridtravel.app and we will take steps to delete it.
9. U.S.-Only Service
The Service is offered only to users located in the United States. We do not target or knowingly offer the Service to users outside the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you do so on your own initiative, your access is not authorized, and you are responsible for compliance with applicable local laws.
10. Third-Party Links and Services
The Service may include links to, or integrations with, third-party websites or services that we do not control. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service or by email. Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect means you accept the updated Privacy Policy.
12. Tracking Technologies and “Do Not Track”
We and our service providers may use server logs and similar technologies to operate and analyze the use of the Service. Any related websites we operate may also use cookies and similar browser technologies; the App itself does not use HTTP cookies. Currently, our website does not respond to “Do Not Track” (DNT) signals from web browsers. We do not sell your personal information or share it with third parties for their own cross-context behavioral advertising.
